The Letter We All Need To Kick Our A** And Kick-Off The New Year

Dear Me,

First, I wanna get one thing straight. You’re amazing.

No, really, you are. Just think about all the freakin’ fantastic stuff you accomplished last year in both your personal and professional life. You crushed all that. And I hope you celebrated because you deserve to relish in all your wins. (Quit checking sh** off the list and moving on.)

The thing is, I know you. I know you’re going to get out there in the New Year and start seeing all this “New Year, New You” B.S. and it’s going to have you thinking. Thinking about what the “new you” is. What that looks like. It’ll probably be something that is “more” than or “less than” you are right now which means that the whole “New Year, New You” thing is based on two things 1) seeing yourself as if you’re already at a deficit and 2) comparing yourself to others.

Truth: You won’t achieve what you set out to if you start off from a place of feeling inferior.

So, I’m begging you to KNOCK. IT. OFF.

Please don’t do this to yourself. Don’t start should-ing, have-to-ing, must-ing all over yourself to begin the year. (Or at any point in the year.)

You are already wonderful as you are - imperfections and all. There is nothing wrong with you. You just need to learn how to see yourself the way others see you. You need to learn how to recognize and tap into your gifts. You need to understand how you self-sabotage your own greatness, stand in your own way, and keep yourself small.

But don’t fret my pet. All of that is figure-out-able, as Marie Forleo says.

Everyone needs to unlearn how they diminish themselves and their capability, potential, and opportunities. Everyone needs to learn more about how to love self and self-care, to stay present and figure out how to ‘be’ instead of what ‘to do.’

We all have shizzle we gotta deal with but it doesn’t make us less brilliant, or less amazing. It just makes us human.

This year instead of thinking about getting better than the last (or not getting into as much trouble), let’s actually begin with the end in mind. F*ck last year. Last year is over. That’s now in the past. Let’s think about what’s happening right now. The year we are in.

In politics, we always begin with the end in mind. We think about election day and then we work backward. So what’s your “election day” going to be? At the end of the year who are you going to be and what will you have achieved? Get clear on what that looks like. Visualize it. Abraham Hicks calls it launching creative rockets of desire. When you visualize it, your brain already thinks it’s real.

Let’s make a promise to not look back. We aren’t heading in that direction. And let’s also not look to the side at the people around us and next to us. We aren’t going where they are. I want us to stay focused on our direction and how each moment, and each day, we are making the commitment to get there.

This year, let’s promise to think big, get creative, quit self-sabotaging and comparing, and keep the end in mind.

This year, let’s stay committed to what we want and desire instead of staying focused on the crap in our head.

This year, let’s celebrate our wins and focus on how we got there more than concentrating on what didn’t happen or what we didn’t do.

This year, let’s try to focus on ‘being’ instead of ‘doing’ and aligning our values with where we want to go.

This year, let’s unleash our greatness and finally show the world who we are and the unique gifts we hold.

More than anything, never forget that I think you rock, I believe in you, I know deep down all that you’re capable of, and I always, always, have your back.

Me

P.S. I know this is a lot to think about and it can be super hard to not succumb to the self-doubt and other limiting mental garbage which is why you should always feel free to call in reinforcements. In fact, I encourage it. Our friend, Jen, is the perfect person to reach out to if you need support with this year’s intentions.

The Unleash Your Greatness group program is the perfect place to begin the year and begin with the end in mind. This program helps you retrain your brain to focus on the wins, identify your success strategies, and create a roadmap to achieve all of those dreams you've been keeping on the back burner. Bye-bye self-sabotage and limiting beliefs and doing things that don’t align with your brilliance or values. Plus, you’ll be inside a community of brilliant, talented, extraordinary leaders to hold you to account as you work toward that ‘end’ you have envisioned.   Get the full details here.
